Plasmodium vivax

• Thin blood film, Giemsa stained
• Early trophozoite- “Ring form” containing a reddish chromatin “dot” and blue cytoplasm “ring”
• Note infected red cell is larger than uninfected red cell
• Schuffner’s dots may be seen as fine reddish dots on infected red cell membrane
