Research interest

Dr. Kwanjit is interested in the emerging bacterial pathogens including zoonotic pathogen such as Streptococcus suis as well as multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacteria Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Chryseobacterium indologenes. Despite the fact that those pathogens become the important emerging organisms, there is little information about their epidemiology and characteristics, especially in Thailand. Her research interests focus on genome study by whole genome sequencing and characterization of phenotypes such as virulence factors, antibiotic resistance and epidemiological study by multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) to gain more understanding of such pathogens. This may lead to the development of treatment methods and effective prevention of diseases in the future.

Short biography

Dr. Kwanjit is a lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University. She obtained B.Sc. degree with first class honors in medical technology from Chiang Mai University. She has been a Department of Microbiology member since receiving her M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology from Mahidol University. After working for a few years, she got the Royal Thai Government scholarship (Office of the Civil Service Commission) to study Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology at the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.
