Overview of the curricula

M.Sc. and Ph.D. degree programs in Microbiology offered by the Department of Microbiology focus on the study of human pathogens (including viruses, bacteria and fungi) as well as of host immune response to infection and immune-mediated diseases, especially those that concern public health in Thailand and the Southeast Asian region. Our curricula provide enriched coursework together with training on research skills that encompass microbiology, immunology, cytology, molecular biology, epidemiology and multi-omics technology. With diverse research interests of our faculty members, students have variety of thesis topics that match their needs to choose.

Curriculum’s philosophy

We are committed to training and producing both Master and PhD graduates in becoming the competent and knowledgeable researchers in the fields of Medical Immunology and Microbiology. The graduates can work independently and creatively towards the acquisition of new knowledges. The graduates can also effectively integrate their expertise with those from other fields of science. Furthermore, the graduates can apply their knowledges in education, public health, politics, economy, social and cultural affairs to appropriately support changes in the future

Curriculum’s notability

The curriculum is recognized and accepted in the international standards. This curriculum is of great interest and highly considered by both international and domestic students for furthering their graduate studies. This curriculum is supported by both distinguished faculty members and research facilities for conducting a wide range of research fields involving pathogenic microbes and immune system. In addition, Chiang Mai University is in a livable and wonderful province, and the cost of living is relatively moderate. More importantly, the graduates enjoy high rate of employment and are highly valued by prospective employers due to their profound knowledges, skillfulness, and unparalleled spirit of collaboration. Below are different types of the degree programs we offer.

Coursework

Coursework: Hybrid classroom, which includes both in-person classroom and online classroom using Zoom and KC moodle.

Thesis research: Experimental laboratory

Our faculty members are experts in the fields of immunology, bacteriology, mycology and virology, and actively conducting research in the fields. Students can choose thesis research from a variety of topics that match their own interests.
