Department of parasitology also conducts researches in opportunistic parasites such as pathogenic free-living amoebae. The environmental surveys and the species identification of Acanthamoeba from infected patients have been studied. The first Acanthamoeba keratitis case from a non-contact lens wearer with HIV infection in Thailand has been reported by our team.  In addition, we have also studies the effective herbal extracts against helminths, Strongyloides stercolaris, which caused cosmopolitan neglected helminthic disease mostly in HIV infected patients.
