Abstract

Background: In many heart diseases, cardiac catheterization is used to diagnose or treat the disease. The placement of a catheter into a child's vasculature can result in vascular thrombosis and other complications, therefore we're looking for indicators to help with early detection of vascular thrombosis.

Objective: This study investigated the association between biomarkers and the risk of thrombosis in children after cardiac catheterization for early diagnosis and early treatment. And incidence of vascular thrombosis after cardiac catheterization

Methods: The target demographic is patients with heart disease who are between the ages of one month and eighteen years old and who are being followed up on and treated at Chiang Mai University during June 2020 to September 2021. A total of 75 juvenile cardiac catheterization patients with a body weight more than 10 kg were included in the study. Patients who stopped taking warfarin less than 48 hours before cardiac catheterization or who had vascular thrombosis before the catheterization were excluded.

Result: Seventy-five individuals satisfied the requirements, with 37 boys and 38 girls separated into two groups: one without thrombosis and the other with thrombosis. The thrombosis group's mean age, height, and weight were 2.9 ± 0.7 years, 87.5 ± 6.3 cm, and 11.1 ± 1.0 kg, respectively. In the thrombosis group, the age, height, and weight were significantly lower (P > 0.05) than in the non-thrombosis group. However, no statistically significant differences in biomarkers such as D-dimer, TAT, factor VIII, and microparticles were found between the thrombosis and non-thrombosis groups (P > 0.05).

Conclusion: The difference in D-dimer, TAT, factor VIII, and microparticles could not discriminate between thrombosis and non-thrombosis groups, but the low level of age, height, and weight suggested the risk of vascular thrombosis.
